Theme
2012 Theme: Illuminate
“For You light my lamp: The Lord my God illuminates my darkness” Psalm 18:28
Illuminate: I was blind but now I see! It is so easy, even for Christians, to be deceived by the things of this world. Only the Light of Christ brings us out of darkness and enables us to walk in the freedom of Truth. This year we are seeking to remove any blinders from our eyes, to move forward with a renewed passion, and walk confidently from a position based solely on the Word of God. Sometimes we don’t know what we are missing… this summer we will find out!
Master illusionist, Harris III, will use your students on stage to help illustrate how easily deceived we can be. His teaching will incorporate illusions that are sure to captivate and transform your students. Don’t be fooled though, these illusions are not just for entertainmet. They will carry with them the weight of truth and are specifically designed to show the power of the Gospel over, and in, our lives.
During AREA1:camps we will challenge students to start a relationship with Jesus Christ if they do not have one. The challenge for students that already follow Christ will be to consider what it means to live for Christ or, put another way, be the church rather than just attending church.
When we present the gospel we present the facts and trust students to make a decision because we believe that God’s Word will not return void to Him. We also work to create opportunities for you and your youth team to minister to your students. Should you be short on adult volunteers to pray with your students the AreaOne staff will be available to support you.
Worship Artists
Cloverton – AREA1:emeraldcoast 2012 Worship Band
Even though lead singer Lance Stafford’s voice has a striking resemblance to Third Day’s Mac Powell, Cloverton’s new song “Take Me Into The Beautiful” offers a unique sound that paints a picture of what it’s like to truly be in God’s presence.
“(The song) is based out of scripture when Moses spent time with God on the mountain, and afterwards, he had to wear a veil because his face shined so brightly,” explains Lance. “It’s an idea of being in the presence of God, and recognizing him moving and active around us. We read about in scripture but it still happens today. It’s a beautiful thing.”
Lance grew up in a musical family, but being a full-time musician and performer did not come naturally. He battled stage fright and pursued music more as a hobby rather than a career choice in college. After graduating, Lance (lead singer and piano) joined back up with his worship band from his local church which included his twin brother Layne (bass guitar), Tim Brantl (lead guitar), Matt Brown (rhythm guitar) and Kirby LeMoine (drums) to form Cloverton.
Cloverton’s first break came from a secret entry by Lance into Embassy Music’s Talent Search, where Lance performed by himself and won regional songwriting and performance categories enabling the band to earn studio time with producers in Nashville, Tennessee. Cloverton’s first EP album Take Me Into The Beautiful released in 2009, and they had the opportunity to open for Casting Crowns on the K-LOVE Friends and Family Music Cruise in 2011.
Speakers
Harris III – AREA1:emeraldcoast 2012 Speaker & Illusionist
“What if everything you’ve based your life on to this point has been a clever illusion?” the illusionist asks. “How deep is the deception all around us, and how much of it do we accept without even questioning?”
His name is Harris, III (“Harris the Third”), and since receiving a magic set from his grandmother at the age of 9, he has been fascinated with magic, illusion and how easily the senses are deceived. At age 11 he gave his first public performance. Today, at the age of 27, he is a classically trained, award-winning, master illusionist, and an expert in the art of deception. He has performed before 1 million people in more than twelve nations on five continents. Harris’ performances not only amaze his audiences, but also awaken them to the lure of deception, the power of the senses, and the secret of living life based on deeper realities.
While Harris has earned respect as an artist to many, ultimately, he’s an equally respected communicator. Whether telling a story, speaking from his heart, or performing illusions, his ultimate goal is to inspire and challenge people, initiating change and transformation in Christ.
Kiley Butler – AREA1:emeraldcoast 2012 Speaker & Host
Kiley has ministered to youth through various ministries, bands and churches for over 15 years. He has served on staff with Youth For Christ, Memphis Leadership Foundation, Urban Youth Initiative, been a rural and inner city youth pastor, and now works with AreaOne as its President. He has lived his life with a heart to see teenagers live out every aspect of their lives from a biblical perspective. During mid 90′s he helped run the Memphis, TN Christian night club “704b” and played in the popular Christian rock bands “Urgent Cry” and “Fingerpaint.” One of the band members and some of the Fingerpaint songs ended up on Skillet’s debut album. For a few years Kiley toured with his own worship band and later served as one of Todd Agnew’s bass players. Kiley graduated from Crichton College with Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies and has also studied for his Masters with Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO. When with the Urban Youth Initiative and Memphis Leadership Foundation, he created an inner city mentoring and tutoring program that reached hundreds of at-risk kids in Memphis, TN. He has spoken at churches, camps, graduations, abstinence conferences and many other events. He has served as President of AreaOne since 2002 and is chief architect of all AreaOne conferences and camps.

Click for FAQs
• Can adult volunteers and chaperones attend with the students? Yes.. AreaOne camps are designed to strengthen the relationships between the youth workers and students. There are no “counselors” as in a traditional camp. The AreaOne staff is focused on creating the best, most spiritually effective camp so you can focus on your students. You will need at least one adult in each condo. Most condos available are two bedroom condos which sleep six people and require one of the six to be an adult.
• I would like my kids to attend but they wouldn’t be with a youth group. Can they come? It might be possible if your students join up with an attending youth group.
• Our group of students are from a ministry, not a church. Can we attend AreaOne? Yes, we would love to serve your ministry and students.
• What denomination are you and are you backed a church? AreaOne is an evangelical interdenominational ministry and we work with many denominations. We are not supported by any one church. We are supported by individuals who are invested in seeing Bible believing, Christ centered ministries thrive. What we’re best at is creating catalyst events that support your ministry by focusing on the fundamental foundation of our faith. We make room for the distinctiveness of denominations and avoid ordinances of the church.
• What’s your theology specifically on baptism? This is a great question and we love when people ask because we are passionate about scripture, biblical worldview training and seeing teenagers meet Christ for the first time. We do not baptize or take communion at AreaOne because we view these as ordinances of the local church. If your church would like to do this we will help make it happen as we do every year for individual churches. Click here for a more detailed look at our theology and feel free to call the President, Kiley Butler at 888.GOAREA1 ext 1.
What is your evangelism philosophy? Do you do long, emotional alter calls?
We do present the Gospel of Jesus Christ very clearly and we do create opportunities for students to respond in different ways. Our philosophy is to present the Gospel as powerfully and effectively as we can and expect the students to make their decision as to wether they will follow Christ. Our priority is to provide opportunities for the church youth staff and volunteers to minister to their students.
What are the youth pastor and church volunteers spiritual roles at AreaOne camps?
At AreaOne, we view our role as secondary to yours. Our heart is to create an environment where you can focus on ministering to your students. When all the details of event planning and execution are taken off your plate it frees you and your team up to focus on your students. If you are short on adults and need help ministering to your students we will be there to back you up in any way you desire.
What if I have some additional students that want to come to camp and it is the day camp is starting?
No problem… assuming we have bed space available we will be happy to try to work it out so that they can participate. While we have to have deadlines, our experience is that the students that most need to be at camp are the ones that sign up at the last minute. We will do everything in our power to help you get as many students to camp.
